JERI TIDWELL

Jeri Tidwell Dance Photography has has over 12 years photography experience in the Baltimore, and DC metro areas. Jeri captures the beauty in dance from beginners to professionals.

I fell in love with photography 13 years ago. I love finding beautiful light. I love interesting shadows almost as much as I love beautiful light. Where does dancing fit in to all this? Dancing has been a part of my life since I was eight years old. You will still find me in ballet class when my schedule allows me to be there! Dance was my first love, and photography was my second...and somehow I'm lucky enough to have joined them together into the best job ever. I'm passionate making great photographs and correct technique is important to me! Together we will create gorgeous, artistic, and unique images that will last a lifetime. You know the hard work required to be a dancer, and photographs are the perfect way to preserve the memory of those hours spent working in the studio and shining on the stage.

Born into a family of photographers, he began to take an interest in his parents' work from an early age. He continues to follow the family business in parallel with his studies up to the age of 27 when he opens his own studio taking photos for advertising and portraits. Around the age of 38 he was fascinated by the discipline of classical dance. He follows lessons in the hall to have a better understanding and begins to photograph shows and lessons. He was invited to Scala at the Ballet School, photographing the lessons for four years with results appreciated to such an extent that his photos were used for the 1998 Porselli calendar. In the same period he was invited to photograph the final show of the Princesse Grace Academy in Monte Carlo by the director Marika Besobrasova. Since 1997 he has followed as official photographer the summer internships of the Royal Academy of Dance in London in Italy and of the masters of St. Petersburg in Rapallo. From this collaboration the official Italian Royal Academy calendar of 2000 was created. Later he photographed great artists such as Svetlana Zakharova, Polina Semionova, Olesya Novikova Leonid Sarafanov, Lucia Lacarra, Luciana Savignano and many others. In 2014, the first photographic book by Svetlana Zakharova wanted by the etoile herself was released. The first official presentation of the book is at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples with the star herself and the journalist Sara Zuccari. In 2015 he won the title of best international photographer of the year promoted by the magazine "Il Giornale della Danza" directed by Sara Zuccari. The diffusion of the book takes him to Tokyo for a further presentation of the same, together with Zakharova.
